The Season for Crochet Gifts

I enjoy making baby hats to give for Christmas gifts, partly because I love children and babies. I recently finished the instructional video for the pumpkin hat (right) https://www.youtube.com/channel/UC1By6r2PCUB7t7ahWXOL7VQ/. and you can find it on my YouTube channel. The patterns for these two hats can be found in the Learn to Crochet Guide section under free downloads. I’m so excited for this young model to have these hats (both are in Crochet Class with Victoria E-book and course). I added a tassel in red for a Christmas hat (left) that I thought looked like a little bow, however everyone at the Christmas gathering started calling it the “chicken” hat. I’m going to be a good sport and enjoy the personality and different interpretations that crochet can bring to a hat.

Hats are a great project because they take very little yarn and time to complete. They are very easy to personalize for a gift too (think team colors, or critters). They also keep little ears warm in the cold weather we get where I live.

If you don’t already know how to crochet, think about learning in 2026 and bring your own creations to life!

Does the hat on the right really make you think of a chicken, or were the adults hungry and drinking too much?

Create Perfect Crochet Hats for Winter

Snowed in at Grandma’s house so we crocheted new hats for the winter season. This is the spiral hat we did in class in single crochet. It is included in the E-book too. It works up fast with less than a skein of yarn. I crocheted a black chenille hat for myself to go with my winter gear.

This black yarn is a little more challenging than white. What I really like about this particular pattern is how easy it is to adapt to different sizes. The two hats used the same hook and yarn. However, some increase rounds are added to increase the diameter. Additionally, work even rounds are added to increase the length.

I enjoyed the variations in class using different hook sizes and yarns and colors. This a great beginning hat to learn to make size and design adjustments. This hat would be a great project for gifts or charity.
